
James L. Cavanah
Our Interim Pastor is Dr. James L.
Cavanah II. Jim grew up in Garden City but both of my
parents, Lawrence and Eunice Hurst Cavanah, were born
Effingham County. Jim’s roots run deep in Effingham soil
and go back to the early Salzburgers who settled at
Ebenezer in 1734.
Jim graduated from Armstrong State
College with a BA in Political Science. His theological
education includes a Master of Arts in Bible & Biblical
Languages and a Master of Divinity Degree from Reformed
Theological Seminary in Jackson, Mississippi, Doctor of
Ministry studies at Covenant Theological Seminary in St.
Louis. He earned his Doctor of Theology in Church
History from Evangel Christian University in Monroe,
Louisiana. He has pastored churches in Mississippi and
Florida.
Jim’s wife, Dawn, is also a graduate of
Armstrong State College, Troy University, and is
presently a Ph.D. candidate. She has taught in the
public schools in Chatham and Effingham and is currently
a teacher at Effingham Christian School.
